Music
The new CD, "Morning Clouds", is a very special one for Jens Schliecker and Nils Rohwer.Eight years after "Bilder einer Reise" (Images of a Journey), the two musicians produced this new CD under very remarkable circumstances. Firmly rooted in their shared musical identity, many of the influences from their work as composers of film scores have contributed to their new compositions. 20 years of shared experience have left their musical mark on "Morning Clouds". The CD was recorded in Yamaha’s premium auditorium, played on master instruments, and mixed and mastered by the expert hands (and ears!) of Achim Niesche. The result is probably the duo’s best and most profound work to date, both in terms of composition and sound.
At concerts, audiences have been enraptured with the new music. And the compositions have been awarded prestigious prizes at an international level too. Jens Schliecker and Nils Rohwer have made an impressive comeback to the stage.
Apart from "Morning Clouds" you can also listen to excerpts of some of the tracks from the earlier CDs "Piano meets Vibes", "Duo Fantasie" and "Bilder einer Reise" (Images of a Journey), on this website.
CD "Morning Clouds"
CorcorDance I + II is synonymous with the musical creativity of Piano meets Vibes. A dance of concord. Understanding one another blindly, and breathing a common musical rhythm. This two-part composition reflects the entire spectrum of what distinguishes Piano meets Vibes. Together with the piece Morning Clouds, ConcorDance I + II reveal the compositional evolution that Jens Schliecker and Nils Rohwer have undergone. Unfettered by the constraints of a particular style, these pieces build a bridge between jazz, classical and contemporary music. The most important thing for Piano meets Vibes is their bond with the listener, taking place entirely on the level of sound and mental images, detached from categories and stereotypes.Winterlied (Winter Song) was written by the Berlin film score composer and pianist Axel Donner, with whom Jens Schliecker and Nils Rohwer have worked on numerous film scores over the past 5 years. Drawn by the familiar musical handwriting, so much like their own, the duo decided to rearrange this wonderful composition for piano and vibraphone.
Erinnerungen an das Morgen (Memories of Tomorrow) is, first and foremost, dedicated to Sünne Lindenthal. The music is meant to remind us not to be stingy with our thanks, respect and attentiveness. "What good is it, if we don’t notice until tomorrow how beautiful things were yesterday?"
Reich sein (Being R(e)ich) is a play on words. Minimalist music has had a profound influence on the music of Jens Schliecker and Nils Rohwer. The blend of tonal simplicity, rhythmic complexity and depth of sound that characterises minimalist music was the inspiration for this piece. It pays homage, in particular, to the composer Steve Reich.
Tanz auf Wolke 7 (Dance on Cloud 7) is simply about the fun of playing together. In its melody and rhythm, Jens Schliecker and Nils Rohwer live their pleasure in making music together.
Blick nach vorn (Looking Ahead) is about confidence in sound and setting forth resolutely to reach new shores. Together with Losgelassen (Letting Go) it was the first composition for this new CD after an extended creative interlude.
Zeit & Raum (Time & Space) simply wants to give listeners the opportunity to unfold, let their mind wander, relaxed and free, to take a little time and space and to drift among the images of their own soul.
